Dyslexia
Dyslexia is a learning difficulty which involves words and language. Children with Dyslexia may be intelligent, but experience difficulties with reading, spelling, writing and mathematics.
Symptoms that suggest your child may have Dyslexia include:
- Difficulties with handwriting
- Difficulties producing certain sounds (e.g. th, sh, ch)
- Difficulties with phonological awareness (such as rhyming, blending sounds and segmenting words)
- Inability to sit still
- Reading or spelling difficulties
- Incorrect or inconsistent spelling
- Skipping of words or lines when reading or writing
- Substituting or omitting letters or words
- Confusing similar looking letters
- Writing or reading words backwards
- Ignoring or omitting punctuation marks or capital letters
- Avoiding reading and writing
- Above average intellectual ability
- Reading below age level.
